albert road house
An existing two-storey Victorian villa in inner city Melbourne was substantially restored and altered to include a modern living wing on the north side overlooking a courtyard with swimming pool, and the construction of a two-storey building on the rear street frontage with garage/workshop. The extension is characterized by a simple ‘white box’, in clear contrast to the elaborate and decorated nature of the existing house. The enclosed and decorated spaces of the Victorian areas compliment the flowing open spaces of the new living areas, to create a house that combines seclusion and privacy with a dynamic and communal family life.
