heide museum of modern art

+

The redevelopment of Heide includes two new gallery spaces, The Albert and Barbara Tucker Gallery and its Study Centre and the smaller Andrew Myer and Kerry Gardner Project Space. It also includes new staff offices, foyer, shop, toilets as well as new back-of-house facilities, including increased collection storage and a new workshop as well as the Sir Rupert Hamer garden. Central to the design is the irregular roof of the main building, with its many skylights which play a role in modulating the presence of natural light within a curatorial space. The skylights act as a kind of symbol of the cultural institution from the outside. By day they have a plain object quality, by night they are lanterns.
